Officials are hoping that towns along the course will open public buildings where runners can huddle and rewarm if they decide to drop out. This year officials are worried about hypothermia-low body temperature-resulting from wind, cold, and rain, the predicted race conditions on Monday. The Boston fans complied, and the race has since been known as the “Run for the Hoses,” since runners zigzagged across the course to find the next watery spray. That year Boston officials asked residents along the course to rig up their garden hoses and spray the steamy runners. THERE HASN'T BEEN SO MUCH TALK ABOUT THE BOSTON MARATHON WEATHER since 1976, when Boston temps hit 90+ degrees for three days prior to the Marathon and then again on race day.
